The Beacon Hotel is being re-imagined with a bold and vibrant new energy — a space abundant with cosmopolitan sophistication, hints of playfulness, and a sense of possibility at every turn. Our transformation draws inspiration from one of Washington’s most captivating figures: Alice Roosevelt, the delightfully rebellious eldest daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt.

Lauded as “Princess Alice,” she defied convention and delighted the American public. She raced cars through the streets of Washington, carried a pet snake in her purse to formal parties, and slipped mini bottles of whiskey into her gloves for dry events. Her popularity was immortalized in the naming of her very own color, Alice Blue, and her global travels as an official emissary of American culture captured the world’s imagination. It is her fearless spirit, wit, and singular charm that guide our renewed identity.

Our design philosophy is entirely committed to a modern aesthetic, while being deeply inspired by the quirky, unconventional elements that made Alice’s life so richly singular. More than anything, we seek to create a sense of warmth and welcome — a tactile, inviting environment that contrasts with the cold minimalism of our competitors.
